Global research projects require the highest standards of reliability from their networks and services. Real-time collaboration, whether around radio astronomy observations or international arts performances simply cannot take place without guaranteed performance from research networks.
At DANTE we have invested in our own Operations Centre (OC) which together with our Operations team ensures the optimum performance of all our networks. Based in Cambridge, the OC manages and monitors the day-to-day operations of GÉANT, EUMEDCONNECT3 and international links from GÉANT to other research networks across the globe. Our OC operates 24x7, every day of the year, delivering better than carrier class reliability with 99.999% uptime.
Using multi-domain, end-to-end monitoring tools such as perfSONAR MDM, and collaborating closely with National Research and Education Networks (NRENs), the DANTE OC manages seamless, high speed networks for the research and education community. The OC’s main responsibilities are monitoring the network (troubleshooting and fixing any problems which arise) and scheduling and managing planned maintenance and upgrades.
